Courage and Calling
Every human being that thinks about it is looking for meaning. They are looking for answers to the most elementary questions: Who am I? What am I supposed to do? Does it finally make any difference? (Michael Campo) These are questions of identity and calling. From a Christian perspective, we recognize that this question can only be answered in relation to God – we can only know ourselves as we come to know God. For students, it is often asked as they strive to identify their vocation, a place "where their deep gladness meets the world's deep need" (Frederick Buechner). But a full and meaningful life is not a future dream; for Christ-followers it ought to be a present reality as we live each day in obedience to God. This course seeks to address these life-long questions through experience, discussion, reading and reflection. Within community, through shared experience, we hope to awaken your imagination - your deep gladness - and invite you to explore your place in God's Story.

Purpose

  1. A program designed to provide a student with foundational knowledge, attitudes and practices for living faithfully and creatively with God in the world.
  2. This program will help students discern where “their deep gladness meets the world’s deep need” (Buechner).
  3. This program will serve as the first year of all other ABC programs.

All incoming students will attend a two-day orientation prior to the semester in order to introduce them to college life and the city of Calgary.
