Evangel – Summer 2017

Message from the President

Dear Evangel Readers,

The graduating class of 2017 is an impressive group of servants. We are proud of their accomplishments. Because of your support, prayers, and gifts, these students have been blessed with the opportunity to be equipped for effective service and witness for Christ.

Perhaps the most touching story among our graduates is that of Jim McLeod. Jim passed away before he was able to graduate but not before he had completed his course requirements. Jim was not a young man, but, now as a Christian, he wanted every minute of his life to count. Working with his local church in Ft. McMurray, Jim sought to improve his serve through ABC’s PACE program. I was privileged to present Jim’s diploma to his widow at his funeral, and I was moved by the difference Jim had made in his community and in his church—and how proud he was of his work at ABC and how pleased the church was with his ministry and his connection to ABC.

Two other members of the graduating class have moved into full-time ministry. Chris Cobbler now serves the St. Samuel Church in Windsor, ON and Zac Eagle recently became the pastor of the Yellowknife Church of Christ in the Northwest Territories. Both of these ministers are in very different cultural contexts, but they are doing the sensitive pastoral work that ABC expects of their graduates. If I had time I would go on about other graduates from the 2017 class who are seeking God’s kingdom in the ministry they do. We are impressed by their commitment to the Lord, by their faithful ministry, and by how well they are prepared to serve because of time spent being equipped at ABC.

ABC is making a difference. So, I would like to make an appeal to you to make a special one-time gift to ABC. Your gift will help us finish the fiscal year strong through the lean months when there is little tuition coming in but we must keep working to finish up the year and to be ready for the next. If you have the ability to give an extra $10, $20, $100, or $1000, or more—you and the Lord will need to work out how much is right—would you join us in seeking God’s mission for ABC, for our students, and for the churches and communities they serve?

Seeking to Serve,

Stan Helton
