Here to Serve
Evangel – Summer 2017
Message from the President
When the disciples of Jesus, James and John, requested the most powerful seats in Jesus’ coming kingdom—though at the time they did not know the true nature of that kingdom— Jesus was clear that leadership would look different among his disciples:
“But it is not so among you; but whoever wishes to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wishes to be first among you must be slave of all. For the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life a ransom for many” (Mark 10:43–45 NIV).
When I consider what this means for Alberta Bible College, I’m reminded that ABC exists to serve. We seek therefore to serve God’s kingdom and then churches who seek first that kingdom. Furthermore, we want to serve our students, both current and past, as a resource for continued work in God’s kingdom. Because we seek to be used by God, we work to position the college to serve the needs of our local community and communities where we have alumni around the world.
We believe strongly that Jesus is our model for a life well lived, and for that reason, we do not seek to be served but to serve and, like Jesus, to give our lives so others can live. In this Evangel, we celebrate those who have been prepared to serve in the Spirit of Jesus.
